The Strange Case of the Contemporary American Frontier

In his classic 1986 essay first published in the Yale review, NCFC board member Frank Popper offers a brisk, sweeping history of the American frontier and what it still means today. As relevant as it was nearly 30 years ago, Frank offers that: “We are no longer a frontier nation, but we are still a nation with a frontier”, a fact that seems to have been lost in the shuffle to become a primarily urbanized, highly advanced nation.
