Since January 2014, NCFC has been working with the Southwest New Mexico Food Policy Council to address food policy issues in four frontier New Mexico counties. The mission of the Council is to increase access to healthy, affordable food and local, sustainable agricultural economies in Southwest New Mexico.
Services NCFC has provided for the Council include:
- Securing funding to establish the Council and implement its priorities
- Staff support to prepare documents, conduct background research for the Council, and prepare, facilitate and document Council meetings
- Connecting the Council with partners across the state that are helping the Council to advocate for improvements to New Mexico’s rural food system and bring additional knowledge and experience to southwest New Mexico in support of healthy, affordable food and local, sustainable agricultural economies
