Charles Alfero – Executive Director
Charles Alfero has over 34 years of experience in rural health policy, systems, and program development. He has been director of rural outreach for the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center and director of the Community Health Services Division in the New Mexico Department of Health. He has either developed or assured the continuation of hospital, primary care, and related service delivery systems in numerous communities in New Mexico. He currently serves on the board of directors of the National Rural Health Association and New Mexico Health Connections, a nonprofit health insurance co-op, among others. In addition to serving as executive director for the National Center for Frontier Communities, he is also the executive director of the Center for Health Innovation (CHI), a non-profit organization that is responsible for the staffing and administration of NCFC.

Susan has over 25 years of experience as a program developer/manager, executive director, advocate and consultant. Susan has worked at the local, regional and national levels on the development of behavioral, medical and public health best practices and provides training and technical consultation to communities and coalitions working on these issues. For over 10 years she has worked in four rural and frontier counties in southwest New Mexico where she has been active in the development and management of numerous local coalitions and the implementation of several innovative health and social service programs. Susan received her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from the University of Wisconsin at Madison and a Master’s Degree in Public Affairs from the University of Texas at Austin. She currently lives in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
