Mapping process and data

NCFC has partnered with the 50 State Offices of Rural Health (SORH) in 1999, 2004 and 2011 to map frontier counties. NCFC believes that it is vital to work together with the SORH to map frontier areas because they are most aware of the conditions within their state. By consulting with local experts like the SORH, NCFC is better able to develop a list of frontier counties that more accurately reflects the conditions in each county. NCFC thanks the SORH for the time and careful consideration they put into the frontier designation process. We also thank the National Organization of SORH staff for their help and support throughout the mapping process.
